SOS 4: Bringelly Public School, Bringelly

Southern Highlands Orienteers (SHOO)’s SOS series brings great sprint-style events to local schools. Because the schools are fenced and courses are broken into a series of short legs, the SOS series is fantastic for kids to come and grow in confidence, and learn independent orienteering skills. Also, kids from the hosting school run free, so round up your friends!

Assembly location and time
The assembly is at Bringelly Public School, Bringelly. There will be red and white orienteering directional signs out to guide you into the assembly. Just park nearby and come to the registration desk.

Event registration is from 9:30am. Event briefing (particularly important for new orienteers) is at 10.00am). You can then start your run any time between 10:00am and 11:00am (it's a good idea to take a bit of time to plan using your map).

Courses and cost
There are a range of courses on offer to suit both adults and kids. Kids from 5 upwards can participate, with simple courses who are beginners, through to more advanced “racing” courses for those who have orienteered before, or want a challenge.

Costs: TBA

SHOO Orienteering is glad to continue a proud tradition of bushland orienteering in the beautiful Macarthur and Southern Highlands regions of NSW.

The Highlands Forest Series aims to give new and experienced orienteers a fun and challenging bushland navigation experience.

Boxvale Tramway is a great bush map. Just north of Mittagong, it has a mix of creeks, open forest, rock formations, tracks and some dense scrub.

Beginners and learners will stick mainly to tracks to develop their skills and have fun, while we’ll throw old hands into technical bushland orienteering in some of our area’s most beautiful spots.

We have a Kids Club
We're also holding a kid's club/development program from 10am to allow the kids to have some fun with bush orienteering. Parents can hang around and help out/supervise, or head out on their own orienteering adventure.

Assembly location and time
The assembly is at Boxvale Picnic area off Boxvale Road. There will be red and white orienteering directional signs out on the Old Hume Highway to guide you into the assembly, but after you pass over the freeway immediately turn right into Boxvale Road for about 100m then left onto an unsealed road for about 120m to the picnic area with limited parking available. Note, please park along Boxvale road if the picnic area is full and then walk along the unsealed road.

Event registration is from 10:30am. You can start any time between 11:00am and 12:00pm (it's a good idea to plan using your map).

Courses and cost
We have the following courses available:

  • Easy

  • Moderate

  • Short Hard

  • Long Hard
